Happy Buddhist New Year 2080 from Nepal! The students of Sirjana College of Fine Arts spent their New Year’s Eve planning for a better future.
Discussions and images were generated on equality for women, the fall of corruption and the need for the caste system to fade further into the past. The students effectively worked together on their contribution to the Kids' Guernica canvas started in #Mulabari village, Nepal.
Creative thinking on display! It was a joy to install the #GuernicaRemakings exhibition at Sirjana College of Fine Arts, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Working with staff and students, stairwells were turned into exhibition spaces and creative solutions were shared for install challenges.
Art practices and art activist projects were presented by Takuya Kaneda, Kuniyoshi Murata, Asuka Ishii, Savina Tarsitano ( Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto Terzo Paradiso / Rebirth-day ) , Carolyn Watt, Nicola Ashmore. Encouraging discussions on the role of art and artists.
An Easter Sunday like no other…involved a trek up a mountain in the Dhading District of #Nepal , a ceremony in a cave temple and a women’s picnic.
Walking with the women of #Mulabari village, outfits were admired, temple traditions were honoured. At the top of the mountain food, family stories and photos were shared and circus skills were enjoyed alongside singing and dancing.
This was the first women’s picnic for the village of Mulabari, Nepal! A day of celebration and empowerment as women could attend without being accompanied by a man.
In view of the #Himalayas - the #guernicaremakings exhibition was exhibited in #Mulabari in the Dhading District of Nepal, 7- 10 April 2023, with Handsom Lila . Savina Tarsitano (Pistoletto Foundation Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto Terzo Paradiso / Rebirth-day ) facilitated the first Women’s Forum creating a structured discussion on what change and developments the women of the village would like to see. Looking together at the Keiskamma Art Project #Guernica, made in the village of Hamburg in #SouthAfrica evoked the sharing of experiences in Mulabari village in #Nepal, notably the loss of a child. A powerful reminder of the universal nature of grief and the love of a mother for her child.
Two hours walk from the nearest town lies Mulabari situated in the Dhading district of Nepal, in the Himalaya’s region.
We joined Savina Tarsitano (Pistoletto Foundation Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto Terzo Paradiso / Rebirth-day ), Takuya Kaneda ( Kids' Guernica ), Asuka Ishii and Kuniyoshi Murata (P3578). They all have sustained collaborations with the people of Mulabari village (Handsom Lila).
We were welcomed through the sharing of song, dance and art. An important reminder of the value of creativity and art to lift spirits and connect people, cultures and community.
Inspiring morning at Sirjana College of Fine Arts in Kathmandu, Nepal with Navindra Rajbhandari. So much wonderful work being created. We will be returning next week with the #guernicaremakings project, exhibition and Kids' Guernica to reflect upon peace, art activism and social justice! We look forward to learning more from students about how they choose to transmit their identity and cultural heritage through visual language.
